Z-Net v1.21

posted in Utility Release by narvick on Mar 16th, 2004

DarkAkuma has released two new versions of his mIRC script, Z-Net. This script helps players of ZSNES to find other gamers for netplay. The official channel is #Z-Net on NewNet, EsperNet, and now GameSurge. Here's what's new:
    v1.21
  • Fixed a bug where the other person's protocol wasn't getting set locally, so it was reporting that you weren't using matching protocols

  • v1.20
  • Added support for compressed ROMs in .zip format. This gets around ZSNES's own problem with loading zipped ROMs in netplay. So if your server or client, having your ROM zipped won't matter
  • Added checksum compare feature. Now if the checksum of your ROM doesn't match the other players, you will know before you try starting up ZSNES. Along with this, Z-Net will now search your ROM directory for a ROM with a matching checksum as well
  • Added protocol to be displayed in your add message, and the "Wants to play a game with you" message. Should be less confusing for people now, since they will now know what protocol the other player is using
  • Fixed it so that when running ZSNES from Z-Net, ZSNES will now use the .cfg files in the ZSNES directory instead of creating new ones in your root mIRC directory. It was unintentional that it was doing that, as I thought it was a bug in ZSNES. But it was instead a bug in Z-Net. I may make this optional some day
  • Game selection box is now disabled for the client, since he doesn't really need to select a game. If you wanted to know, the way ZSNES netplay works is, host/server selects a game, then when client connects to host/server, ZSNES on the client's computer looks in his game directory for a ROM matching the same name has the host/server's
  • Added options to access th eother servers, in the right click menus
  • Changed the IP display box, to now be editable. So if for some reason you need to enter in an IP manually. Just can do it in Z-Net, where you can just cut and paste, instead of inside ZSNES where you can't
  • Swapped position of IP display, and voice chat check box to reduce accidentally clicking on voice chat
  • Moved settings to their own window. And added an "Advanced" button to enable/disable options that shouldn't be messed with by someone new to using Z-Net. This window can be accessed by right clicking the nick list window, or PM window. Or from the mIRC menu bar. And also from typing /ZSettings. And from the Z-Net menu bar discussed below
  • Fixed edit boxes for the zsnes.exe file path, and game directory in the settings window, to now let you type in the path if you want
  • The label for the box that displays the other person's IP now shows that person's name
  • Added a menu bar to the main Z-Net window. It has a few options that are nice to have right now, but I mainly added this for future development
  • Readme is now accessible through right clicks, menu bars, and /ZReadMe
  • Fixed bug with Z-Net setting your game dir, as your default mIRC download dir
  • Add script is now set on a timer. 30 minutes after you start it, it will turn off on its own. I'm doing this to reduce seeing adds from people who have gone away from their computer for a long period of time. If you're at your computer when this happens, you can simply turn it back again by typing /Z-NetAdd on, or selecting to do so from the right click menus. Sorry if this will annoy you, but it will annoy you more seeing a room full of people making you think they want to play, but they're actually not even there
  • New /ZReload command. Type this from now on, after you update to a new version of Z-Net by copy/unzipping the updated version to your root mIRC directory
  • Changed add configure window to a list box. Looks better like this. Just hold Ctrl to select up to 5 games. Also, now the add window will save your games you picked last time. Also changed the semi-useless "Clear" button to a "Refresh" button, to refresh the add window if you add new files you want to select right away
  • Added color to most of the messages, and an option to change the color of personal messages
