Neon64 v1.0

posted in Emulator Release by narvick on Jul 5th, 2003

Neon64 is an NES emulator for the N64 coded by themind of Halley's Comet Software. The beta version has been available for about 7 months, but here's the first official release! Here's the features and what's new list:
Since the previous version (beta 1) massive improvements have been made. This version has no code in common with the old one. A major new feature which has been introduced is that all graphics operations are now performed on the RSP using custom, self-modifying microcode. Everything you see is first drawn in RSP DMEM and then DMAed to the frame buffer. Because of this and many other improvements over the last verson Neon64 now runs at very near full speed, whereas the old version was approximately 25% full speed. What is emulated (items with '!' were not in beta 1): * 6502 CPU * PPU (Picture Processing Unit) * pAPU (pseudo Audio Processing Unit) ! * Mappers 1!,2,3,4!,7! * Controllers 1 and 2 * SRAM data saving!
Get it at the Emulators for Nintendo 64 page!

Thanks to the author, themind, for the news!
