Famicompo begins for NES music

posted in Site News by deathadder on May 16th, 2003

To celebrate the 20th birthday of Nintendo's NES (Famicom) system, the first online music competiton for NES 2A03 sound called Famicompo started. Nowadays, the NES music scene is getting more interesting day by day. There are already two tracker programs for NES: Nerd Tracker II (DOS) and Cheese Tracker (Linux). Japanese fans may wish to use another music editor, called mck, which is based on Japanese traditional MML style. For those who haven't heard about MML: it's a text-based music editing system, most popular for 8-bit/16-bit music in Japan. In case you're interested in this method, read Virt's mck guide first. Here are the rules for the competition:
  • Acceptable format(s): NSF only
  • Each person who enters may send in up to five songs
  • Both originals and covers (including unadorned copies) are allowed
  • Use internal channels only
  • Agreement for entry distribution, etc.
G-NSF is selected as the official music player for this competition. Entries are to be sent via e-mail. See details at the Famicompo entry section. The deadline is June 15th. Special thanks to our friends at VORC, the Japanese-English website for videogame and chiptune music news and related information, for providing this news piece. Their description of this competition was so accurate and well-written, I decided to basically use it for our news post here, after changing around some English grammar. Thanks again, VORC! While you are gearing up for the competition, you may wish to sample some delightful Super Fighter music, stored in handy Nerd Tracker II format!
