***Super CastleVania 4 speed run movies by Paul Lucas (pml@neo.rr.com)***

These movies are a must see if your a castlevania fan (or even if your not). I tried to waste no time in these movies, as a matter of fact I got hit on purpose a lot just so I could go faster! I have spent literally hundreds of hours finding the fastest way to do these levels and executing and recording these movies.

Visit my castlevania 4 speed run movie website at: http://paultwo.8k.com/castlevania4.html (it will keep you informed of news for my movies, I plan on remaking more levels faster)

Installation procedure:
Unzip the files to your ZSNES folder, then rename your castlevaina4 game to scv4.smc, then run ZSNES, then open castlevania 4, then go to misc tab at the top, then to movie opn, then click the little boxes as to what movie to play (you should play them in order 0 - 9, then rename 10 and 11 to play them). Remember, if it don't play then make sure your castlevania 4 game is named scv4.smc NOTE: these movies were recorded using ZSNES version 0.991 (see above).

-What made me decide to do these movies?.... There are several reasons. After watching Jay Payne's and RyanG's movies (at: http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/zmv/ ) for castlevania4 and people thought that those movies were good, I knew I was able to do it a lot better and a lot faster and more enjoyable to watch. Another reason is, ever since the release of ZSNES version .985 was when I really started to get into the zsnes. I have always dreamed of doing speed runs through this game before the zsnes came out, now with zsnes I am able to do it. Plus I wanted to show off my 10 years experience with castlevania 4!

Here are some notes on each of the movies:

zmv: From what I have observed, certain skeletons and Hawks have 2 different random attack appearances in this game. So when the movie has a problem (due to these 2 enemies) there is a 50% chance of the movie to run like it should. The skeleton that guards the entrance to the upstairs room has a 50% chance of letting the movie work like it should on this level, if I get hit by that skeleton, replay and fast forward (tidle key) the movie to that part untill it works.

zm1: none

zm2: none

zm3: I beat this level 13 seconds faster than my old movie! I beat the end boss 4 seconds faster!

zm4: In this level, the first hawk can do 1 of 2 different attack appearances. You will either see me get hit by the first hawk at the very beginning or just keep walking and doing the rest of the level. Keep replaying the movie until it works.

zm5: I beat this level a whole 25 seconds faster than my old movie! I did every aspect of this level faster. I found a faster way to do the swinging chandaler part and did that section 6 seconds faster. And I beat the end boss 2 seconds faster! Although recently I have found a faster way to do this level about 10 seconds faster, including even the swinging chandaler section even 4 more seconds faster. When I get it recorded it will be posted on the internet ASAP.

zm6: I beat this level a whole 18 seconds faster than my old movie! Once again, I did every aspect of this level faster. This level is close to perfect now. I don't really see any quicker routes to do this level any faster (except for only a couple that only saves a couple of seconds, but i'll keep experementing and maybe i'll find one.

zm7: none

zm8: none

zm9: At the first skeleton you come across (the one with the sword) he can do 1 of 2 things each time you go to him, so sometimes the movie will not let you go past that part. Just replay and fast forward (tidle key) the movie to that part until it works (you have a 50% chance of it working).

zm10: none

zm11: The reason why I made Level 10 two different movies is because this level is long! It was easier on me just in case if I made a mistake after the first boss, I would not have to start all the way back at level 10. Did you notice the final time left to the last level? :)

NOTE: you'll have to rename zm10 and zm11 to a number 1-9 to play them.

(make sure you maximize this text file to see the full table below)

Times:

zmx=zm10/zm11

*improvement from my old movie=(x)

Level--File-----Time to do it---Time left-------time I believe it could have gotten done faster-
lvl1: zmv	2:25 305 seconds	4 seconds faster if done perfectly
lvl2: zm1 1:23 307 4
lvl3: zm2 3:25 445 20
lvl4: zm3 3:38/3:25(-13)	332/345(13)	5
lvl5: zm4 1:09 101 1
lvl6: zm5 3:38/3:13(-25)	382/407(25)	10
lvl7: zm6 2:17/1:59(-18)	413/431(18)	2
lvl8: zm7 2:13 317 3
lvl9: zm8 2:50 480 4
lvl10 zm9 2:16 464 11
lvl11: zmx 5:33 666 11

OLD MOVIES:
total time to do game: 1907 seconds (31 min. 47 sec.)
total time left: 4212 seconds

NEW MOVIES:
total time to do game: 1851 seconds (30 min. 51 sec.)
total time left: 4268 seconds

So, I admit it, perfectly (and I mean REALLY perfect) this game could be beat about a minute faster. On my free time, I spend a lot of it constantly trying to find ways I can beat every single level faster. Ususally after I get done recording a movie, later on I find out that there are ways I can actually do it even faster. So I am constantly trying to improve my times on all the levels of this game.

PLEASE NOTE: My old movies are going to be hard to find on the web, if you don't have them and want to see them please email me at pml@neo.rr.com and I will send them to you.

Look for more speed runs in the future by me. Don't be surprised if you see any of these movies improved with better times in the future by me. I also have to say thanks to all the great comments I am getting from these movies, they really help me get motivated to remaking them faster. So keep the comments coming!

I hope you enjoyed these movies I made.
