~ What's New~

March 25, 2002 - 11:00pm
Changed this readme to html format, because of the fact that too many people we're viewing the mushroom picture wrong and I won't have that...also it allows anchors, so that's a nice gain for the user.

February 22, 2002 - 12:5am
For those of you that have downloaded our modification of Super Mario World...I would like you to know that I would like it if someone would host my website...or if someone is interested in me joining a different group (but this game would still be by Fractious Hacks). The reason I'm stating this, is because of the fact that Geocities.com gives crappy bandwidth...so that means some people might not be able to get this file. A way to prevent this is by me joining someone who has a lot of bandwidth. (completed)

~ Comments ~

This demo release just lets you play the first world. After you beat Iggy's Touture/Green Switch Palace you won't be able to go any farther, so don't think this is a bug or a glitch. These levels I wouldn't consider easy...espically the second level...don't give up! Also please don't use savestates...I don't need to. You might notice that the World 1 castle and the Green Switch Palace doesn't collapse. The reason for this is I don't have them activate the next event...where they do collapse.

Some of you might think this game is to hard...especally for World 1. Just to let you know...I didn't intend to pull a Nintendo game, so that you can wizz through it. I want you to think situations through and sometimes strain yourself to remember what path you just took or/and what path your about to take. I've included the meaning of Fractious below...incase some/all of you didn't know that Fractious is a real word.

From the WordWeb thesaurus/dictionary I quote:

"Adjective: fractious
1. Stubbornly resistant to authority or control
2. Easily irritated or annoyed
3. Unpredictably difficult in operation; likely to be troublesome."

Out of the three choices I think my hack would ether be number one or three...or even both. How I come to this conclusion is through this thought. For number one... My game is "Stubbornly resistant to authority or control", as in the level will be hard to control...in otherwords you have eneimes or obsticles and its very difficult to get through; therefore its resistant to your authority over the control of Mario to avoid or go through them. For number three... Some levels may be unpredictably difficult...such as level two ("Insane Placement"). You might complain on the set up of the level or something of the sort...but remember this isn't your easy wizz through game...so get over it (yes this is possible...look at the movie thats avaible for you all to download. I didn't use one savestate).

Also for a note...I know that in the level called "Water Crisis" it has a slow down and also some of the kelp might be a little weird...it'll be fixed in the next version. The next version will have a demo of World 1 and 2 combined. In the first level

~ ZSNES Movie Setup Instructions ~

To view the ZSNES movie file put the file called Mario - Fractious Demension.ZMV into the same folder as the Super Mario World rom that you patched. I'll post a description below.

Assuming ZSNES and your Super Mario World file is in the same folder and that your directory is called... C:\ZSNES

Step 1: Unzip the file called Mario - Fractious Demension.zip into C:\ZSNES (I recommend Winzip to accomplish this).

Step 2: Use a IPS patching program (you can find these easy by searching on www.yahoo.com). Each one has a different way of patching the Super Mario World rom, so I won't bother to type on how to do this.

Step 3: Now go into C:\ZSNES with "My Computer" or any other program that'll accomplish the same goal. After getting into the directory...right-click the Super Mario World rom. Click on "rename." Name the Super Mario World rom to Mario - Fractious Demension.*** (the .*** could be .fig or .smc; I did this because I don't know what file extension you have for the rom). If you don't do this you need to rename the Mario - Fractious Demension.ZMV file to the same name as your Super Mario World rom. If your Super Mario World rom isn't the same name as the ZSNES movie file the movie won't load. I'll Assume you chose to rename the rom to Mario - Fractious Demension.

Step 4: Open ZSNES and left-click on the "Load" tab. Find the rom called Mario - Fractious Demension and ether double click it or click it once and click the "Load" tab.

Step 5: Once the rom has started go back to the ZSNES menu; left-click the "MISC" tab. After the MISC menu is open left-click on the tab titled "Movie OPN".

Step 6: You should now see a window open called "MOVIE OPTIONS". Make sure the checkbox is selected next to the number zero (0). There should be a white circle to the left of the zero by default. After that click on the "PLAY" tab.

Now the ZSNES movie should start up...enjoy! :)

~ Status of Modification ~

P.S. What I suggest you do is grab a soda, (pop) get some chips (or any other snack), then go in front of your computer screen, grab your Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad (hopefully you have one...its very confertable) and prepare to have some challenges...don't forget to have fun!!! :)
