If you did not get this from www.angelfire.com/rpg/CoGS, then thank
whomever you got it from for spreading the word about my ROM-hacking.
Also... well, whoever thinks about taking this file, downloading it,
rezipping it up, and passing it off as their own... I mention who I am
and my website throughout this spoof. If you are going to go through
the trouble of hacking the ROM and removing those references, why not
just go through the trouble of making your own ROM-hack. Sheesh.

			1. Introduction

This is kinda my first attempt to make a spoof of a game for others. I
have ROM hacked and spoofed games before, but usually only little bits
and pieces for myself or my friends. I am working on making a full-game
hack, from Slave Crown to Maduin's death.

There are a few things you need to know. (1) I'm a moron. (2) I'm not
all that funny. (4) I can't count. (5) I don't have a lot of free time.
(6) I've never written a readme before. (3.14159) Did I mention I can't
count?

Anyway, if you like it, cool. If not, in part 3 of this readme you will
find a list of links. Download those utilities and YOU try to make a
spoof of a game. Trust me, it's not as easy as you'd think.

And if you do find it easy... well, so what? I'm a moron (see #1,
above). Big deal if you are better than me. Most people are. :)

		     2. Major Game Changes

* Default names are in lowercase (Terra instead of TERRA, Vicks instead
of VICKS, Kumama instead of KUMAMA, just to name a few).

* Some item hacks (tonic/potion/x-potion are now soft drinks; minor
changes to the "rare items" and descriptions)

* Lots of dialogue changes. I've change almost every bit of text in the
ROM. If you've played the game before, and you come to a piece
of unchanged text, I've probably not hacked that far into the
ROM. The dialogue is not always stored sequentially within the
ROM (like the parts detailing the Save Point or Relics, which
are near the end, even though you see this information way at
	the beginning of the game).

* Some graphical changes. I won't tell you what they are; if you don't
notice them, you don't deserve to know.

* World Map changes; I've made shortcuts that, if abused, will screw up
the game. (For instance, if you take the shortcut from Narshe
to Kohlingen, you can hire Shadow before you get Edgar; if you
proceed to Zozo and retrieve the Magicite, when the group is
reunited, instead of Edgar, Sabin, Celes, Cyan and all the
rest, you will have Terra, Locke, and a bunch of Moogles. It's
interesting if you're careful - for instance, I got Terra to
sing at the opera house instead of Celes - but it will make the
game impossible to finish; when I got to Setzer's airship, the
game froze, because the Moogles have no dialogue.) There are
some other changes, including (but not limited to) these: there
are holes in most mountain ranges and land-bridges across most
waterways (so you can go from the Veldt to Thamasa or from
South Figaro to Vector without aid of an airship).

		     3. ROM-Hacking Tools

The majority of the text-hacking was done with THINGY, but midway
through the project I found Final Fantasy 3 (US) Editor (FF3USED)
and it made text-hacking easier, though I couldn't hack town names,
character names, or item names / descriptions with it. THINGY did
it, once I made a table for it. To make the THINGY tables for the
non-dialogue text, I used SearchR. In order to hack the images in
the ROM (mainly characters) I used Tile Layer Pro (TLP). I used Monster
Editor (FF3usME version 4.0) to alter the monster's location in the
world, battle power, and treasure. (I understand 5.0 has a spell editor
tacked onto it, but I'm too lazy to bother downloading it.)

I then used SNESTOOL to make the isp patch.

{FF3USED}	-> yousei.lfx.org
{FF3usME}	-> www.angelfire.com/pq/jumparound/index.html
{SearchR}	-> www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/6195/

I got THINGY, TLP, and SNESTOOL from smb3c.darkmazda.com. Navigate your
way to the ROM Hacking Utilities section. Or be lazy and just type in
http://smb3c.darkmazda.com/reference/utilities.html. Whatever works
for
you. They also have lots of other good utilities, as well as great ROM
spoofs and links. A great all around site, as a matter of fact.

		     4. The Patch History

Version 2.0
A couple of dialogue edits were fixed, more dialogue and item edits
were made. The dialogue is editted up to the point where Locke
and Terra flee Narshe and head south to Figaro.

Not all characters can use Magic now; the Magic ability was removed
from non-mage characters. Only Terra, Celes, Strago, Relm, and
Gogo are allowed to use magic.

The game does now include some sexual content (and will go for a more
mature theme throughout the remainder of the game). I have
	changed the opening disclaimer accordingly.

Above the Returner Hideout is a landbridge from Narshe to Nikeah. I
have included LOTS more convenient shortcuts on the map; the
entire world of balance is reachable from the very start of the
game. Locke has a Moogle Charm equipped to make exploring more
fun. Just unequip when you get bored of not fighting (WARNING:
it cannot be re-equipped because only MOG can equip Moogle
Charm.) Edgar has a Charm Bangle, so go get him if you want to
explore a little more and fight a little less.

Version 1.0
In this spoof, I've editted up to the point where the Imperial
Guards come for Terra and Arvis makes her go through the back
	door. The changes I've made:

All dialogue has been changed, except for the event dialogue (the
Guard still says "we won't hand over the Esper / Whelk, get
them!" and Vicks and Wedge still say "think back to our
briefing ... etc. etc." and the scene with Tritoch is
untouched). Event dialogue like those work on a
different THINGY table; I have the table, but I'm not editting
	the event dialogue just yet.

Item changes; only Tonic / Potion / XPotion / Tincture / Ether /
XEther / Elixir / Megalixir have been changed. These are the
first items on the list. I am editting items in order; then
I'll do the "rare items" (pendant, clock key, etc.), weapons,
armor, and relics. If I feel like it, I will edit spells,
	Espers, and monsters last.

Map changes; paths cut through mountains, land bridges around water,
etc. There are paths from Narshe to Kohlingen and the Returner
Hideout, so you can go to those places right after Locke and
Terra escape Narshe. There is a path from the Returner Hideout
to South Figaro, and from South Figaro to the southern
continent. There's a landbridge to Nikeah (during the Sabin
scenario, after the first battle with Ultros, you can go left
and take a ship back to Narshe, skipping Cyan and Gau). Also,
to the right of the House on the Veldt (the crazy old man), you
will find a landbridge to the Triangle Island, where Intangir
is. There's a landbridge after the Phantom Forest straight to
the Veldt, so you don't have to go down Baren Falls. There's
also a bridge from the Veldt to Thamasa. You can pretty much
go all over the world once you hit the world map.
