 About the Project
===================
I started this hack several months ago, when I was first getting
into ROM hacking. It hasn't been worked on for a while, but it
 will probably be finished eventually.

Here's what has been done so far:
    - Script partially rewritten (up to the Village of Mist)
    - All DUMMIED items restored
    - Character classes expanded ("DKnight" is "Dark Knight", etc.)
    - Some classes renamed ("Wh.Wiz" is now "Priest"/"Priestess",
      "Chief" is "Engineer", etc.)
    - Some items renamed ("Life" potion is "Pheonix Down", "Cure"
potion is "Potion", "Carrot" is "Greens", etc.)
    - Screen font touched up
    - Currency changed from GP to Gil
    - Several other modifications

 Applying the Patch
====================
Extract all of the files in the ZIP archive to the directory
where your FF2 ROM is located. Then type:

    IPS FF2.SMC FF2V01.IPS /B
        ------- ---------- --
           | | \
           | \ -------- Creates a backup of the ROM.
\ -------- The file name of the patch.
-------- The file name of an FF2 US ROM.

 Getting the Restored Items
============================
Final Fantasy 4j EasyType (which is what FF2US is based on) is missing
a lot of items that were in FF4j HardType. This patch restores all of
those "Dummied" items. However, there's still the matter of actually
getting those items in your inventory.

This is where my FF2 Inventory Editor (FF2EDIT.EXE) comes in. It
allows you to edit the inventory list that's stored in a ZSNES
Save State, and put any items you want in your inventory. You could
give yourself 99 Elixirs or 40 Porno Magazines (the Porno Mag is one
of the items that was left out of FF2US).

Using the program is fairly self-explanatory, but I'll explain it
anyway. First of all, MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SAVE STATE! I don't
think that there are any serious bugs in the Inventory Editor, but
it's possible that it might corrupt a save state file. So BACK UP
THE SAVE STATE before you modify it!

The keys that the program recognizes are:

ARROW KEYS - Used to highlight items.
ENTER - Used to select items.
ESCAPE - When you're on the Inventory screen, pressing Escape
closes the program. At any other time, it takes you
              back to the previous menu.
BACKSPACE - When you're on the Inventory screen, pressing Backspace
allows you to change the Quantity of an item, without
changing the item itself. For example, if you have
1 Excalibur in your inventory, but you want to have 99
of them, you'd highlight the Excalibur and press
              Backspace.

You'll be asked to enter the name of a ZSNES Save State file (if
you're using SNES9X or any other emulator besides ZSNES, I'm afraid
you're out of luck; this utility only works with ZSNES Save States).
Assuming that your FF2 ROM is called "FF2.SMC", the ZSNES Save States
 will be named as follows:

     FF2.ZST -- Save State 0
     FF2.ZS1 -- Save State 1
     FF2.ZS2 -- Save State 2
     FF2.ZS3 -- Save State 3
     FF2.ZS4 -- Save State 4
     FF2.ZS5 -- Save State 5
     FF2.ZS6 -- Save State 6
     FF2.ZS7 -- Save State 7
     FF2.ZS8 -- Save State 8
     FF2.ZS9 -- Save State 9

After you've entered the name of the Save State you want to edit, the
Inventory that's stored in that file will be displayed. It looks
 something like this:

ITEM NAME QTY. ITEM NAME QTY.

     Potion 99 Excalibur 1
Pheonix Down 37 Ragnarok Sword 1
Porno Magazine 1 Demon Shield 1
     Antidote 10 -Nothing- 0
     -Nothing- 0 -Nothing- 0

...and so on. Highlight the slot that you want to change and
 press Enter.

Now, you'll see a menu consisting of all the different types of items
in the game. After you've chosen a category ("Daggers & Swords", for
example), a new list will come up, that contains all of the items in
 that category.

Highlight the item you want to place in your inventory, and press
Enter. Then, type the desired quantity (from 1 to 99). You'll be
taken back to the Inventory screen, where, unless you've messed up
this insanely simple procedure, the item you selected will be in
 your inventory.

When you're all done, and you want to see the results of your blatant
cheating (shame on you!), press Escape from the Inventory screen.
When asked, press "Y" to save your changes. Start ZSNES, load the
FF2 ROM and open the Save State that you edited. Open the Item
screen and behold your inventory, in all its hacked glory!
