REQUIREMENTS

To use this patch, you need the following things: All of these (except the ROM) can be found on PR Translations. I will not upload the ROM in case my site is deleted again.

USING THE PATCH

Posting the patched ROM on my site is not possible because my site was deleted recently, and the fact that I had the ROM on my site may have been the reason. Because of this, it is easier to post a patch. Here are some instructions for applying the patch:
  1. Put the patch (which should be in the same zip file as this Readme), the ROM and SnesTool in the same folder.
  2. Run SnesTool.
  3. Press the U button on your keyboard.
  4. It will ask you to select the Unchanged File (this means the Final Fantasy ROM). Use the arrow keys to select the ROM, then press Return again.
  5. It will ask you to select the patch. Use the arrow keys to select the patch (which is called SMQUEST.IPS), then press Return.
  6. Press Esc to exit SnesTool.
  7. It should have patched the ROM properly. The patched ROM can now be run in an emulator like any other ROM.
WHAT'S CHANGED

The idea of this hack is to integrate the Super Mario Bros. characters into the Final Fantasy world. Along the way I am also improving the graphics a bit.

You can also contact me by writing a message on the PR Translations Guestbook (which is on the PR Translations website, where you should have downloaded this patch)! In case you forgot to bookmark it, the address is:

Questions NOT to ask me (and their answers): I'm getting a bit tired of being asked the same questions over and over again, so I thought I'd add that little FAQ thing in. It probably won't be very helpful to anyone (apart from the ROM hacking question), but they're the same answers I'd give you anyway. If you have more specific questions about those things feel free to ask me, but apart from that please don't bother.

Thanks to the people who made Thingy, Relative Search, Tile Layer, SnesTool and Tabular! Without them this wouldn't be possible at all!

DISCLAIMER

Final Fantasy is copyrighted to Square, and Super Mario Bros and the related games and characters are copyrighted to Nintendo. I am not connected with these companies. It is illegal for you to keep the ROM on your hard drive for more than 24 hours if you do not own the original cartridge. The patch, however, can be kept on your PC for as long as you like.
