1.0	Description
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Final Burn Launcher allows every release from CPS2-Shock to date to be played in the awesome
emulator Final Burn. There is no renaming of roms needed and each game saves its own unique
configuration details. The Sega games and CPS-1 games that are already emulated by Final Burn are
also supported. It is also a front end for Callus and Barry Rodewald's QPlayer program.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.1	Requirements
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This program and the current version of FBCPS2en. You will also need the roms of the game(s) you
want to play. The rom-sets can be merged with the parent rom or split. The roms need to be
compliant with the dat files distributed by Loqiqx and Razoola. This means that a rom-set that
works with Final Burn Launcher will also work with MAME, Nebula, Kawaks, Calice and any other
CPS-2 emulators.

For armwar, pgear and pgearr1 you will need the XOR tables patched by [Haze]. This enables the
games to be accurate without emulating the maths co-processor which the game uses. You can
download these XOR tables at the Final Burn Launcher homepage.

For the QPlayer Frontend you need Barry Rodewald's QPlayer v1.4.3. This is an excellent piece of
software that will play the Q-Sound from all CPS-2 games - including the ones yet to be XORed.

For the Callus games you need the excellent Callus emulator. The required version is Callus95
0.42 Patch 2.4. If you want to play the vertical Callus games in Mame you will need a version
of the WinMame build (Mamew).

See the Credits section at the bottom of this file for web-sites where you can get Final Burn,
QPlayer, Callus and Mamew.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.0	Set-up Instructions
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make sure you have FBCPS2en set up and working on your computer. If you want to use the Q-Sound
Frontend make sure you have Barry Rodewalds QPlayer v1.4.3 set up on your computer. If you want
to use Callus make sure you have Callus95 version 0.42 Patch 2.4 set up on your computer. If you
want to play the vertical Callus games in Mame then make sure you have a working version of Mamew
set up on your computer.

1. Unzip the Final Burn Launcher archive to a directory on your computer.

2. If you want Screen Shots to be displayed then unzip the snaps.zip file to a folder.

3. If you want Flyers to be displayed then unzip flyers.zip and flyer2.zip to a folder.

4. Run Final Burn Launcher.exe and click on the "Options" Menu, choose "Set Options" and set the
   options as required.

5. Choose a game and click the "Play" Button. This will then start the game in Final Burn.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1	File Information
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Files included in FBLauncher0xxx.zip:

cps2cheats.dat File used for Code Browser.
fblcheat.dat File used by fblcheat.exe.
fblcheat.exe Final Burn Launcher cheat module.
Final Burn Launcher.exe The frontend itself.
qsound.wav Sound file for the About Box.
readme.txt This file.
scancodes.txt List of keyboard scancodes - see section 3.54 Keyboard Support.
whatsnew.txt Whats New in the current version.

Final Burn Launcher will also create and store settings in launcher.cfg. And it will also create
a controls directory and store your control settings in ini files. Cheat (cht) files must be
placed in a directory named "cheats" in the Final Burn Launcher directory.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.0	Features
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.1	How to Play a Game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best feature of Final Burn Launcher is that it allows every XORed CPS-2 game to be played in
Final Burn. It also retains the CPS-1 and Sega games which are supported by Final Burn. To play
a game simply select it in the list and then click the "Play" button (or double-click on the
game). Follow the same procedure to start a game in Callus.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.2	Screenshot and Flyers Display
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you click on a game in the gamelist a screenshot or flyer will be displayed to the right of
the gamelist. To view a screenshot you can click on the "Screen Shot" button or press P. To view
a flyer you can click on the "Flyer" button or press F. To choose which is displayed by default
go to the "Options" menu, choose "Set Options" and select either "Screen Shots" or "Flyers".

To display screenshots you need to unzip snaps.zip to a folder on your computer. You then need to
click on the "Options" menu, choose "Set Options" and select this folder as the folder for screen
shots.

To display flyers you need to unzip flyers.zip and flyer2.zip to a folder on your computer. You
then need to click on the "Options" menu, choose "Set Options" and select this folder as the
folder for flyers. Screenshots and flyers must be in seperate folders as they share the same
names.

Screenshots and flyers need to be in Jpeg format. They need to have the same name as the rom zip
files. Final Burn Launcher will first look for a file named after the game, ie [clone].jpg. If it
doesn't find this it will look for [parent].jpg and if it is doesn't find either it will display
nothing. As an example, if you click on Alien Vs. Predator (Japan), Final Burn Launcher will look
for avspj.jpg, if it can't find that it will look for avsp.jpg, and if it doesn't find that it
will display nothing. Armed with this knowledge somebody could make screenshots or flyers of
their own if they wanted.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.3	finalburn.ini Editor
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is located at the bottom of the main window. It allows you to set options available in
finalburn.ini that cannot be set with the Final Burn GUI. This includes setting the video mode
and colour depth for the full-screen mode. You can also set the sound sample rate, the rom-path,
and the buffer method, as well as telling Final Burn to save the state of a game when you exit
and to read the input every frame. If you're wondering why there is no option for video height,
this is determined by the width. If you select a width of 800, a height of 600 is assumed.

Final Burn Launcher will load the current values from finalburn.ini on startup. To update
finalburn.ini once you have made any changes click on the "Amend finalburn.ini" button.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.4	Switches
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although switches can be controlled via the Final Burn Input menu, Final Burn Launcher allows the
switches to be set via the "Switches" menu. This offers descriptive selections rather than
numbers. For example, you can set a region of a game to USA rather than 1.

The switches amend the ini file for the selected game. This means that the ini file has to exist,
which means that the game must have been played in Final Burn at least once. If the ini file
isn't found a dialog box will warn you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.4.1	Region Switches
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Region Switches allow you to select the region of a game. Simply click on the game in the left
list and the required region in the right and click the "Change" button. You will then get a
message telling you whether or not the change was successful. Only games that have region
switches are displayed. If you select a region which is invalid for a particular game then the
program will tell you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.4.2	Misc Switches
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Misc Switches allows amending of items such as Free Play options or Title Screens. Simply select
an option and click "Change". You will then get a message telling you whether or not the change
was successful.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.4.3	CPU Speed Settings
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CPU Speed Settings allows you to alter the CPU speed of certain games. Although you can set any
value you like the default for CPS-1 games is 8Mhz and CPS-2 is 12Mhz. To change the speed of a
game simply select the game and type the required number into the speed box. Click "Change" to
perform the amendment. You will then get a message telling you whether or not the change was
successful.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.4.4	Difficulty Settings
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Difficulty Settings allows you to change the difficulty of CPS-1 and Sega games. This method is
much easier than entering a value for a dip switch until you get the required difficulty. Simply
select a difficulty level from a dropdown box and click the "Change" button. You will then get a
message telling you whether or not the change was successful.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.5	Input Menu
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This allows you to update the controls used by games in Final Burn. Apart from allowing correct
labels for the controls the best feature of this is the global settings. For example, you can set
the button for "Coin" once and have it applied to all games.

The "Input" menu amends the ini files for selected games. This means that the ini files have to
exist, which means that the games must have been played in Final Burn at least once.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.5.1	Common Controls
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Allows the global updating of the following buttons; Reset, Diagnostic, and Service. Also allows
the global updating of Directions, Coin, and Start for every player. Simply choose the required
input from the dropdown boxes and click the "Change" button when you have selected them all.
This will then change these settings for every game that has an ini file. An ini file is created
when a game is played. A message will be displayed when the updating has finished.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.5.2	Fighting Game Controls
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Same as Common Controls but updates all 2-player 6-button games.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.5.3	Game Specific Controls
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Same as Common Controls but updates specific games, for example, the Dungeons & Dragons dialog
sets the controls for all variants of Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons:
Shadow over Mystara.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.5.4	Keyboard Support
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dropdown boxes allow you to select between 3 standard joysticks, 2 hotrod joysticks, the
numeric keys and the F keys. To use other keys simply look in the scancodes.txt files and find
the key you want to use. Type the corresponding code into the dropdown box and continue as above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.6	Q-Sound Front End
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This feature requires the use of Barry Rodewald's excellent QPlayer. See section 2 for set-up
instructions. Since, I like listening to Q-Sound music whilst I work I have added a Front End
for this program.

To access the Front End click on the "Front Ends" menu and select "QPlayer". Simply select a game
and click the "Play" button. The front-end will then write a DAT file for QPlayer and start the
program and load the roms.

When you have finished listening, close QPlayer and then click on the "Close" button of the
Final Burn Launcher QPlayer Front End. This will then remove the generated DAT file.

For instructions on how to use QPlayer, see the documentation that comes with it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.7	Code Browser
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Simply allows you to view a database of codes. Make sure you have the file cps2cheats.dat in the
Final Burn Launcher folder and then click on the "File" menu and choose "Code Browser".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.8	Cheats
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since FBCPS2en supports cheats I have added a "Cheats" menu. You can set the cheats of supported
games here. This has better descriptions owing to the fact that more space is available. You can
also select a description rather than a number, eg, "Light Blue" instead of 4.

Final Burn Launcher now supports the use of cheat files written by the user. See the on-line
tutorial at the Final Burn Launcher homepage for more information.
