Sega emulator snap save editor for Shining Force and Shining Force II

Be sure to back up any saves your going to play with, don't want anything bad
happening to them(thats not a threat, my program is perfectly safe, really =)...

Update:
----
v1.04 - 05-19-02
- Added "Affect All" menu

v1.03 - 04-11-02
- SFedit can edit Shining force saves now *WooHoo*
- All sorts of options to go along with SF
- You can drag files into the SF window and they will open...

v1.02 - 02-02-02
- Added magic and their level. Check 'Odd spells' for more information.
- Moved the caravans inventory back to the main window...

v1.01 - 02-01-02
- Added save state offset memory(offset.dew). It can add new offsets also.
Thus the name search is nolonger needed as much, save for unknown file types.
- Moved the caravans inventory to it's own window.
- Added setting items to cracked etc.

Hard coded Offsets(in memory):
----
gs* (Gens,DGen), SF SFII
ks* (Kgen98), SF SFII
kes (Kega), SFII

submit your offset's to <avaj@elhazard.net>

What you can edit:
----

 Shining Force II
- Character data including Name, Level, Class, HP, MP, ATT, DEF, AGI, MV
Exp, Kill#, Defeat#.
- Your characters spells and spell level.
- The items the character is carrying, and if it's equiped/cracked.
- Gold
- The caravans inventory.

 Shining Force
- Character data including Name, Level, Class, HP, MP, ATT, DEF, AGI, MV
EXP.
- Your characters spells and spell level.
- Gold(set to 3 bytes, don't know for sure)

What i'm not sure about:
----

- The total amount of gold you can have
- The maximum value of hp, mp, kills and defeats
- What value says they are active/usable...

Supported snap saves:
----
- See offset list(above)

Those are the only ones tested, it should work with ANY snap save

Quick guide
----

FILE menu
--

OPEN - opens a save state to be edited

SAVE - saves a currently opened state

SAVE AS - saves the currently open state to a different name

RECENT - A list of the 6 most recent loaded snaps

EXIT - Shuts down the program

CONFIG window (from config on menu)
--

AUTO LOAD MOST RECENT FILE ON STARTUP - If selected the program will
automatically load the most recent snap when it is turned on

CLEAR RECENT LIST - Remvoes all items from the recent list

PERFORM SEARCH WITH DEFAULT NAME ON STARTUP - If selected the program
will automatically use the name in the search field when the program
starts(if auto load is selected) and when a file is loaded.

START SFEDIT IN THE LAST USED MODE - If selected the program will start
in the mode you closed it in. This is to say that if you closed the
program editing a character in Shining Force it will start back up
editing for Shining Force. If this is not set then it will start in
Shining Force II mode.

AFFECT ALL (Thanks to Earl and Darksol for the idea)
--

HEAL ALL - If selected will restore the HP and MP of all force members.

PREPARE TO LEVEL - If selected will put the EXP of all force members to 99.

FIX ALL EQUIPMENT - If selected will remove the 'cracked' status from all items.

SWITCH
--
This tells the program to change from editing Shining Force II saves to
editing Shining Force saves. The main bar should change and many options
should fade/show.

ABOUT
--
A bit of info about the program... nothing really special.

MAIN window (where everything is)
--

- Whats the search for?
-- Option superceded by offsets, but may still be used/needed.
Not all the snaps have the data in the same place because of headers and
such. Using the search you enter the name (keeping the same capitals and
lowercase) of your main character and it trys to locate that name in memory.
If it dosen't find the right spot it won't show the data the correct way.
You can tell because not all the fields will have information in them and
the gold amount will be way off. If this happens then click CONTINUE and
it will search deeper finding then next instance of the name. You should
only need to continue once... but who knows.

- Add Offset button:
If you are finished searching a file and have found the correct data you can opt
to save the offset information. It already knows a few files offsets, why not add
to it.

- Character:
This should be a list of all the characters, even ones not yet on the force.
If the list is wrong or garbled then press CONTINUE on the search.

- Sync values: (Shining Force II only)
Notice below that values such as ATT and DEF have to values listed. The
first value is your base stat and the second is the stat after equipped items.
If you select SYNC VALUES then when you modify one the other will change also,
so if you go from 10 to 2 the other value will follow suit, even if it was a
different value. If the other value was say 12 it would go from 12 to 4. When
changing values with SYNC on you will want to change the smaller of the 2...
it looks odd if you change the larger one and the smaller one goes below 0...

- Caravan Inventory:
This allows you to change the items that are in the caravan. The first select
shows each item currently in the inventory and the second select allows you
to change what said item is. Lets say your third item was Mithril and you wanted
to change it to a Vigor Ball, you would select the Mithril with the first select
and then change it to a Vigor Ball with the second select.
The first select will probably show a lot of "Empty", you can change these to
anything you want. Note that it dosen't matter which empty you chose, the one that
changes will be the one closest to the rest of the items. This is done because
it is the way it is done in the game.
The caravan has one value for how many itmes you have and another set for what
they are.

I'll skip over most of the options because they should be pretty obvious

- Magic:
These are the upto 4 magic moves a character can use. You can set the spell and
it's level.

- Item:
These are the items that the above character is equipped with. It also shows
which if any of them are equiped and cracked. You can change the items around and
if they are equiped and or cracked. I haven't really played around with this part
to much. I'm not sure what will happen to your stats if you unequip an item but
leave your stats alone...

Unknown values window (Dbl click on Karna's image)
--
For the selected characters this shows the values I haven't quite figured out yet.
You can change these values just like the others.

Extra stuff.
----

Odd spells: (Shining Force II)
--
In the spell list their are a few spells that you won't see in the game. A few of
them do damage only to your characters, and others raise levels and stats.
The list also has blanks in it. This is because they are just the character names,
the blanks ALSO CRASH THE EMULATOR.
Of the ones that arn't evil blank this is what they do:

Spoit "<name> put on a demon's smile." - Magic absorption, absorbs some mp but then
 gives it back
Helin Heals hp(was always 0 for me)
Flame "<name> belched out flames!" - damage, no animation. This is like kiwi's
 move.
Snow "<name> blew out a snowstorm!" - damage
Demon "<name> cast demon breath!" - damage
Power Permanently increases attack by 2 or 3
Guard Permanently increase defense by 2 or 3
Speed Permanently increases agility by 2 or 3
Idaten Permanently increases movement range by 2
Health Permanently increases max hp by 4
B.Rock Nothing
Laser Nothing
Powder "Spell has no effect." For everyone I used it on anyway.
G.Tear Recovers mp(was always 0 for me)
Hanny Permanently increases max mp by 2 or 3
Brave Level up. Neat move, hehe.
F.Ball Damage
Brezad Damage
Thundr Damage
Aqua Damage
Kiwi "<name> belched out flames!" - damage, kiwi's special
Shine Recovers mp(was always 0 for me)
Oddeye "Odd-eye beam!" - damage

That should take care of everything for now. Have fun.
