M E N U v1.2 28-Sept-2000

Introduction:
-------------
There are now quite a few homebrew games and demos for the NGPC.
The idea behind Menu was to group these all together so that they
could be written to a single cartridge for ease of use for NGPC
owners.

Controls:
---------
When Menu is run, a tabbed display is shown the tabs represent
NGPC program categories. These are Action, Puzzle, Demo and
Favourites. The joysticks allow you to move between the Tabs and to
select the game/demo you require. Pressing the A button will run
that game or demo.

The games and demos have been modified so that pressing the option
button from the title screen of the game will return back to the
menu system.

Contributions:
--------------
It is a quite simple process to contribute your game or demo to the
menu system. But unfortunately it does require a couple of changes to
your code and it currently only works with software written using the
'AS' assembler.

The changes required to your code are as follows:

1. Change the origin of your code (the 'org' statement at the top of the
main asm file.) You will need to either contact ivan@rcp.co.uk or
jimbagley@hotmail.com to get the value for this. Note this value changes
for each submission.

2. Remove any other 'org' statements from your code or make them relative
to the value provided above. *NOTE* If you use an additional 'org'
statement at the end of the main file to fix the size of the cartridge
image then this must be removed.

3. Do a check for the option button being pressed when your title screen is
displayed. If the option button is pressed jump back to the menu code:
        JP 200089h
This routine stops all interrupts, clears memory, restores the stack pointer
and resets the scroll registers before re-running the menu system.

4. Decide which category you want your submission to be in: Action = 0,
Puzzle = 1 and Demo = 2.

Your game will have a cartrige header similar to:

    org HEADER_OFS
db " LICENSED BY SNK CORPORATION" ; 28 bytes license string
    dd Start ; Program Counter
    dw 0 ; Catalog number
db 0 ; Sub catalog number
    db 10h ; colour or b+w (10h = colour)
    db " SNAKE 1.2 " ; Game name (12 bytes)
dd 0,0,0,0 ; padding - reserve for future use

Change the last dd (used for padding) to:
db x,0,0,0 ; Menu system category
dd 0,0,0 ; padding - reserve for future use

Where x = the category number.

5. Ensure that the Game name in the cartridge header makes sense as it is this
name that is displayed by the menu system.

6. Reassemble your code and send the .p file (not the .ngp) to the person you
received the origin value from (back in step 1).

And that's it!
